Sui network and tunnels: scaling for AI agent activity
Sui Foundation and Mysten Labs showcased that Sui’s tunnel architecture can deliver extremely high throughput during a live Basecamp demonstration in Singapore. The foundation reported a peak of 40,614,180 transactions per second, more than doubling the 20 million TPS target set for the event. The result came from offchain tunnels: Sui opened more than 10,000 tunnels to support payments, games, and chat activity, with tunnels requiring an onchain transaction to open and another to close while interactions within the channel remained offchain. CertiK served as an independent auditor and verified the figure live, with a more detailed review of proofs, execution logs and supporting evidence expected in the coming days.
Mysten Labs framed the test around “agentic finance,” arguing that AI agents — not human users — are the actors that could justify millions of transactions per second. Adeniyi Abiodun emphasized that no human market needs millions of TPS but agents do. The October result notably exceeds Sui’s July demonstration, which recorded about 6.1 million TPS using the same tunnel approach. Sui highlights that tunnels are programmable, enabling builders to create applications beyond simple transfers.
The foundation also tied the throughput demonstration to existing infrastructure and market initiatives: USDsui stablecoin issuance, Sui’s role as a launch partner for Google’s Agentic Payments Protocol, and U.S. investor access through SUI-linked products such as Canary Capital’s SUIS, Grayscale’s GSUI, and Coinbase staking. The live CertiK verification lends weight to the headline number, while the forthcoming audit will provide further detail on the test data and its onchain settlement evidence.
